Pokemon Similarities to Poker

Pokemon video games have an incredible amount of strategy. Which move will the opponent use, and how will you act accordingly? Not to mention just organizing all of your moves and options in one basket. It's similar to playing the game of poker. You have a hand of cards, they have a hand of cards. Will they up the ante or check? What will you do if they up the ante? Fold? These options unfold and multiply quickly and become hard to follow.

For example, let's say you have a Metagross and a Cacturne, and the opponent has a Zapdos and Garchomp. This is definitely a tough situation for your team. You want to kill them as soon as possible since Metagross is weak to Heat Wave from Zapdos and Earthquake from Garchomp. So you think to yourself "Well, I can just use Explosion with Metagross and Protect with Garchomp and it will be good game". What if they think you are going to do that and just double Protect? You would be down 2-1 and you would lose. You could circumvent this by not exploding and using a different move and then exploding next turn. Mind games like this abound in the VGC.

If you can learn these mind games in a game like poker, you will most certainly succeed in pokemon video games, since there are several similarities.
