There are two types of battling in the Pokemon video games. Single battles originated in the very first series of games, Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow. You as a trainer had one Pokemon fight against another Pokemon, and whoever made the opponent's pokemon faint first won the match. This is still considered the standard system of battling in today's pokemon community.
Double Battles originated in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, and at first, were not taken seriously by most trainers. As time went on, however, the double battle aspect was instigated into trainer's thoughts via the higher level of strategy that is involved in a double battle. This aspect was especially brought forward by the Pokemon Video Game Showdown 2008 and the Pokemon Video Game Championships in 2009. Now more and more people are paying attention to double battles and the quirks that are involved.
We are currently getting an introduction to Double Battles guide written. When it is complete, we will upload it so you can read it.
